Has the US sold its soul?
I was reading online about how Obama was pressured not to criticize China too much on human rights, etc. That really burned me up! Here he is talking about the great ideals that our country has, and yet we can’t even tell them to treat their own people with the respect and tolerance that they deserve! Why do we continue to do business with these goons? The Chinese are seriously so much less caring about the well-being of their own people than here in the US, and they are Communist! We shouldn’t do business with them at all I believe, and yet they own so much have us. Do you think it is past the point of no return? Have we sold ourselves and our ideals along with us?
Fizzy Bubbler — You’re an idiot. Who is China to tell its own people how to live their lives? America shouldn’t do business with people that don’t have any regard for human life. How in the world can you find something wrong with me saying that?

No China is no longer Communism its more capitalist than our country that’s for sure

america sold its soul a long time ago, way before obama, bush, and clinton

China is only communist in name. In actuality they are capitalists. We do business with them because they sell goods at a cheap price. There is nothing more capitalist then undercutting your competition. Obama is just trying to have a good relationship with the country that will be soon be the most powerful in the world. Would you rather go back to the days of the Cold War?

I guess I take a pragmatic view of the world.

Yes, I believe in freedom and democracy and working hard and the "American Dream".

But, when it comes to judging others in different cultures, we may not be able to do so…

The Chinese people have been opressed in one form or another for about 5,000 years. Remember, Chinese communism is only 60 years old. But Chinese culture goes back 5,000 years! There have always been feudal emporers or other harsh rulers that set the tone as to how much freedom their "subjects" can enjoy. It is certainly not the kind of environment that I would want to live in…but it seems to work just fine for the majority of the one billing plus people that live and work in China.

I am sure that the same sentiments are shared by people in places like Sweden when they look at Americans and wonder, "how can an advanced nation and so-called world super power have so many poor people living in ghettos?" You and I know the answer to that question…but to some do-gooder in Sweden, they just don’t understand.

Ya you tell em. You’re so much better than them aren’t you. I wish I was American. Then I’d be better than anybody.

Get a life kid. Who is America to tell people how to live their lives? Why do Americans try to force their way of life down everyone’s throat and then call it freedom?

Yes. Indicated by the election of one Barack Obama, a Communist atheist egomaniac who deceived America into thinking he had answers to complex problems. He does not.

Obama is a butt kisser, not a butt kicker. He disguises this as diplomacy, when in actuality he is selling America out in hopes the world will give him top seat. He is so disillusioned and green in world politics, he doesn’t seem to realize they will take all he will give, and then cast him aside like a used handiwipe. This will be his reward for trading the American people and their nation. No one in the world respects his leadership, they only give him insignificant accolades so he will continue to give them exactly what they really want, the slow depletion of the greatest nation the world has ever known, the USA.

World leaders all around are careful not to criticize other nations, unless they are trying to start a war with them. Regardless, their conservatives will probably take offense to anything he says, and spin it around like our conservatives do. Diplomacy is all about shifty behavior, implying things without actually saying them. Everyday speech is just as loaded.

I’m not pleased with all the cheap plastic crap we get from China either, but it’s definitely not a good idea to provoke them. And until we can convince our businesses to stop shipping jobs overseas and to sell more durable items (rather than cheap ones that always have to be replaced), they’ll keep feeding us to China and other countries.

If you think we could do without China and our trade with them then take off all your clothes, take out your appliances, every one of them, toss it right outside your door and sit on the floor nude and protest ok?

What else is new? Every time an American President visits China the press and the politicians are always suggesting, "Don’t step on China’s toes," or "Don’t hurt China’s feelings!" It makes me angry, too. Our interests should be relayed frankly and directly without any precautionary measures such as "hurt feelings." How many times have nations recalled their ambassadors because of petty arguments? I think human rights and unfair trade practices are in OUR best interests. I was angry when Congress voted to give China "most favored trade nation" status. My Congresswoman was one of the few that voted against it. I called her staff and congratulated her for having the guts to stand up for what is right instead of America just trying to make profits for Fat Cat CEO’s who ship jobs overseas anyway. The Chinese also use child slave labor. That is reprehensible.

Thanks to Richard Nixon, each president that has followed seems to find it diplomatic protocol to kiss China’s backside, Democrat or Republican!

I find in this case that we are dealing with an economic powerhouse and are only looking at how to make a good deal on a few issues. Human Rights violations always seem to be swept under the carpet. That is after a token prisoner or two is released from jail. That’s it. There will never be sweeping democratic reform or freedom in China as long as the communists rule.

I think we are well on our way to selling our soul to China. Unfortunately, those panda bears are cute, but they don’t close the deal in my book.

We will only sell our souls to the devil if we submit to Obama’s demands! DON’T BUY FOREIGN GOODS, is one way to hurt these foreign companies. If their stuff lays on shelves untouched, they will soon get the message, but it is going to take the efforts of everyone who holds America near and dear to their hearts!!! I never used to look at labels when I went shopping. NOW I DO! If it is NOT Made in USA, I don’t buy!! There isn’t much we can do about the Government borrowing money from these guys or them coming into the country and buying land and properties! But why do we have to pay taxes to cover the Government’s out of control spending - with OUR money!!!! It should be going to help the People here, not spent on making deals with foreign entities!!! It really makes me mad when trying to speak to a person when calling a credit card company - Banks and businesses!!!! The people answering all my calls are ALL in some faraway place and can barely understand English! I am beginning to revert back to the old days! If I don’t have enough money to buy something now, I start saving up for it, and then pay cash! Why should we FEED these companies and make them rich with the interest they charge!!!? If you ever take the time to do some Math, you are actually paying for something twice or maybe three times the actuall price!!! So Christmas is just around the corner!!! Am I going to put aside my resolution for the holidays!? NO! I am NOT! What cash I have, will be divided between my family members, they could probably find better use with the money than some fancy wrapped gift which they don’t like!!! I am going to forgo buying my cat an expensive toy, when he gets just as much fun out of a paper bag!!! Stop buying crap, cos it isn’t going to put food on the table!

Many politicians sold their common sense to the highest bidder.
